About the Trip

Last February, Covenant Day sent a team down to Jeremie, Haiti, to work at an orphanage owned and run by El Shaddai Ministries. The team set up a computer lab at the orphanage which is now being used by both teachers and students for educational purposes. While there, the team held some basic English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer training classes.

This February, Covenant Day is sending another team to the same orphanage. We will be installing a typing software on all the computers and teaching a few basic lessons on how to use the software so that student’s can learn to type. With the teachers, we will be holding classes on how to introduce biblical integration into the classroom. Furthermore, we will be holding Vacation Bible School for the orphans and assisting with any construction projects that might be needed.

One huge part of the trip is introducing the people in Jeremie to a program called Aquaponics. Basically, it is a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, where fish are raised and vegetables are grown together in a closed loop system to provide protein and nutrients through a sustainable system. Mr. Chin will be pitching this idea along with more logistics to the people in Jeremie to see if they would like to partner with CDS to put in a system down at the orphanage.

As it relates to sustainability, it looks as though we will be purchasing goats, ten or more, and building pens for the goats to be used at the orphanage. Along with that, we will be planting several moringa trees, the fruits and leaves of which have a variety of nutritional and medicinal purposes.

On this blog site, we will be posting from time to time leading up to the trip and some will be writing blog posts and uploading pictures each day during the trip to help keep you up to date on all that is going on.

We thank you so much for your prayers and financial support, and we hope that this blog will be a way that you can stay involved and up date with everything that is happening.

I’m not sure who will be managing the blog, but could the Flight itinerary be posted? Thanks.

Would you mind posting a group picture of the 12 CDS students on the trip? We’d love to put this on the Covenant Day School Facebook page!
